The HPV vaccine protects against human papillomavirus (HPV), a very common virus that can cause cervical, anal, throat, penile, vulvar, and vaginal cancers, as well as genital warts.

Who should get it?
Routine: Ages 9–12 (can start at 9)
Catch-up: Anyone up to age 26 if not vaccinated earlier
Ages 27–45: May still benefit; vaccination is based on shared decision-making with a clinician
Doses
2 doses if started before age 15 (6–12 months apart)
3 doses if started at 15 or older,
